15 – 23 June 2019

The Great North Wood Collective, the independent arts charity behind organising the Crystal Palace Festival, is pleased to announce that the much loved Festival is back on 15 – 23 June 2019.

This year’s Festival’s format will be little different but still promises the same vibrant, fun and community focused atmosphere visitors have grown to enjoy.  The Festival will be going back to its roots to focus on supporting the local businesses and the community, bringing visitors an exciting week of arts, culture and heritage in and around the Crystal Palace Triangle and local green spaces.

Festival Week, called Up the Palace, will kick off on15 – 16 June with a smaller event than usual in Crystal Palace Park and will run over two days instead of one. The Village Green in Jubilee Gardens beside the bus station will featureperformances from local artists including musicians, dancers, singers and provide an opportunity for the locals to show off their talent. Festival Week will be bustling with the local traders, restaurants and bars opening their doors with special offers and a fun packed programme of artistic, heritage and cultural events.

Noreen Meehan, the Festival’s Director said, “Now in its thirteenth year, the Festival has grown year on year in popularity and has attracted around 30,000 visitors to the one day Park event alone.  Led largely by a team of volunteers and delivered by an independent charity, the event costs a huge amount in both time and money – a testament to the dedication of our community. This year’s smaller Park event coupled with our focus on supporting the local economy with a fabulous Festival Week will give us an opportunity to find a sustainable way of bringing the larger event back to Crystal Palace Park, and keeping it accessible for everyone to enjoy.  We are hugely grateful to local businesses Martin & Co. and Amphlett Lissimore, both long standing supporters of the Festival and our headline sponsors this year.

Our purpose is to bring arts, culture and heritage to everyone in the community by putting on a vibrant, fun and accessible event for everyone to enjoy. As a charity we rely on grants and public support to fund the Festival each year. For example in 2018 we were able to support disabled artists, deliver an intergenerational dance project for younger and older people, and perform concerts in care homes with the London Mozart Players.”

The Great North Wood Collective also organises events annually to help raise vital funds needed to make the Festival happen each year – and to ensure that everyone in the community can access the arts.
