So… would you like to see a Long Division Festival in 2020?
You'd think it'd be a no brainer. We've shown year after year that the festival generates between 100k-150k in spend with local businesses. This year alone we've paid artists £78,870, the overwhelming majority of which are emerging / developing. We've got the best reviews we've ever had, getting press in places like The Guardian and GigWise. We've run a ground-breaking education programme and a co-op style vinyl compilation which is now generating cash for the artists.
Great!
But here's the issue. Less than 50% of our income is generated through tickets. Way less. Long Division will never be self sufficient. Because we operate in Wakefield. Because times are tough. Because of hundreds of reasons for another time.
That means every year we start from zero and try and build this thing up, and every year it gets harder. For us that were there, it makes sense – support Long Division, it was great! But as the memories fade, the world moves on and the cycle begins once more.
So what can you do to help? Three things:
1) Fill in our survey. It's super easy. We use this data to show sponsors and funders who comes to LD, what they do and what they think. It also directs the festival – this year's Marquee came off the back of survey suggestions. Only half the usual number of people have bothered this year.
