Rich Brown is one of North America’s foremost electric bassists, having toured extensively with Rudresh Mahanthappa as well as many other leading artists.

Richard ‘Rich’ Brown (bass, guitar, percussion) was born to Jamaican parents in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1970. He lived in Ft. Lauderdale throughout his teenage years, later returning to Toronto where he still resides.

Electric bassist/composer Rich Brown has been playing professionally since 1992. He has released 3 albums as a leader, and appears on over 70 recordings ranging from Jazz to Funk to traditional Arabic and Asian music. Rich has performed with a wide variety of artists including Rudresh Mahanthappa, Steve Coleman, Angelique Kidjo, Kurt Elling, Kim Mitchell, James Blood Ulmer, The Parachute Club, Molly Johnson, and David Clayton Thomas to name just a few. He also leads his own groups — rinsethealgorithm and The Abeng — and was nominated for a Juno Award in 2016 in the category of Jazz Album of the Year: Solo for his latest album ‘Abeng’.

Following the success of his band rinsethealgorithm and the release of a solo bass album on ADDO Records, “Between Heaviness & Here”, Brown has assembled an all-star cast of Canada’s best modern jazz musicians for his last project, ABENG.

  1. Hello Mr. Brown, you play wonderfully and you're for me a source of inspiration. Please, what are the strings that you use on your Ken Lawrence ? Best Regards (Bruno from France)
