They are known for their high-energy music, which features distorted bass lines, aggressive drumming, and intense vocals. Here are some types of bands and genres they sound like:
1. **Dance-Punk Bands**: Similar to bands like LCD Soundsystem and !!! (Chk Chk Chk), DFA 1979 incorporates danceable rhythms and punk rock aggression.
2. **Noise Rock Bands**: They share a raw, abrasive sound with bands like Lightning Bolt and Japandroids, focusing on distortion and a lo-fi aesthetic.
3. **Garage Rock Revival Bands**: Comparable to bands like The White Stripes and The Black Keys, they have a stripped-down, powerful rock sound with a heavy emphasis on bass and drums.
4. **Post-Hardcore Influences**: Their music sometimes echoes the intensity and drive of bands like At the Drive-In and Refused, with an emphasis on energetic and emotive performances.
Overall, Death From Above 1979’s sound is a high-octane mix that appeals to fans of punk, rock, and dance music, with a gritty edge and a focus on rhythm and intensity.
