I’ve been researching tents because my friend and I are attending multiple festivals this summer. We’re first time campers so we need a tent that’s fairly easy to set up. It must be also wind and water proof. So far we’ve settled on either the

Basically we can’t decide which is better. The backpacker has more reviews and most are positive but the Ribble has more space plus its 3000hh which should fair better than the backpacker when it rains. I’m open to all suggestions. I’ve also looked into decathlon but most are pop up tents which I’ve been warned to stay clear of.

  1. We have a Coleman Kobuk Valley 3+, for my husband and me – if you’re not a couple you might like a bit more space, but this one is great for two people if you don’t mind being fairly cosy. It’s easy to set up and take down (takes about 10 minutes), but the best part is that it’s a blackout tent – it has an interior black lining. This makes a huge difference in the British summer when you’ve gone to sleep at 4 and the sun comes up at 4:30!

We bought this tent for festivals but liked it so much we actually ended up using it as our primary camping tent, too (instead of our big canvas bell tent).

  2. I have an REI kingdom 4 tent that had made it through many camping trips/ festivals that I love. Can fit a queen sized cot, cooler, & still has loads of space, can comfortably fit 2, plus you can fully stand up. I don’t know if they have REI in the UK but they do international shipping.
If you have the money shiftpods are rad

  3. If you’re planning on tent camping with another person, *do not get a two person tent!!!*

All those ultralight “two person tents” are really one person tents with barely any room to spare for your gear. Unless you’re willing to get really snuggly.

Get a four, or even six person tent. You’re from the UK so I’m assuming you’re going to be camping relatively close to your car, the extra weight of a six person tent will be worth it. Get a big air mattress that you can pump up with a hand pump, or a 12 volt outlet. Make it homey.

Whatever tent you get, you should also get a Ground Tarp, something to put underneath your tents footprint to further separate you from the ground, this will especially come in handy if it rains.

Get a canopy. I would recommend a standard 10 x 10 canopy to put over your camping area for a little sanctuary.

  4. Even as a couple, go for a three person tent. It’ll give you room for your gear and for you to have a little bit extra personal space. Definitely don’t get a two person one 🙂

Personally I am team Fresh & Black popup tents from Decathlon/Quechua. They’re bulky as hell but they’re great tents and the blackout and heat reflecting material is great for festivals.

  5. If you are backpacking then a backpacking tent makes sense but honestly I use a Hammock Gear Wanderlust hammock/quilts/tarp for backpacking and then beat the piss out of Coleman tents for festivals.

Werk Out got a lil wild last year I actually need another one. I don’t bring my expensive backpacking gear to festivals tbh. Def don’t bring ultralight gear.
