I just saw Illenium on Saturday in 94 degree weather at night. The fact that your video shows people in jackets makes me irrationally angry and envious of your weather lol. Looks like a great time!
Lyle Lovett always managed to put on a killer performance when I’ve seen him. From performing with his Large Band to just playing with Robert Earl Keen he has knocked it out of the park ever time. I think a lot of people write him off as twangy county but he’s written so many fun, interesting, pretty songs over the years that he often seems like a genre in and of itself.
Lyle Lovett? Isn’t he or she some twangy pop-country star? Whatever, lemme see what it’s all about. Wait, this can’t be right. Am I misremembering? Which one is Lovett? Maybe it’s a band, but I thought it was a person. Sounds great, but now I’m confused. Wait, is *that* Lovett? Wow, that’s not what I expected — I’ve got to hear more!
One of the things I love about the jamband scene and festivals in general is exposure to music that’s outside of my awareness. It taught me to take a moment to listen despite any preconceived notions or ideas if I’ve never really paid attention to an artist before. It’s particularly great when someone on the periphery catches my attention and gets added to the list of “see if they come through here.”
Thanks for posting this. Next time you see someone grousing about people recording at shows, let them know that you posted a 23-second clip and got at least one random dude to stop, listen, enjoy and discover an artist that’s new to him.
