Undoubtedly at some point even the bigger bands now started in the same place early in their careers as smaller bands. It is unlikely they kicked off at festival promoters etc but instead asked themselves what they could do to make it and applied themselves in the right areas to stand out from the crowd. So what can bands do to help themselves progress?
There is no 3rd division music league for example, there is just one massive worldwide league that every band steps in to the moment they release anything. Quality is therefore a key factor in every bands success.
So putting out music that is not competitive could be a valid reason bands sometimes do not get the results they had hoped for, and from personal experience my next recording is always better than the one before so recognising progress is also key while always making it as good as you can.
There are often occasions when we get bands apply for Mammothfest, the music is great, all the boxes are ticked, we are just already full. Despite some bands frank opinions, this does happen, festivals do get their line ups fully booked so if this is the answer we have given; it is 100% the truth.
If we do not think a band works for us we will also say and we are open to feedback should the band ask? It is nothing personal just as it is unrealistic to reply to every band thanking them for your application and explaining why they were unsuccessful.

Great article Steve and I couldn’t agree more with all you have voiced. It’s not an easy industry to get recognition in but promoting your band in a professional way will give your a better chance of success. 🤘😈🤘
