Here's a unearthed video from LD2012 and a story from our Director.
"I love Twilight Sad and it was awesome to get them to play Wakefield Theatre for LD2012. You can see that by the fact I made a really long video of such poor quality footage, dashing round the Theatre to film from every angle.
Back then we had a thing where we put a bigger band on in the afternoon to get crowds out early. I remember they had a massive rider and didn't touch it, heading off back to Glasgow straight after the show to enjoy later.
The next year they came back to Wakey to play The Hop but only about 30 people came. I complained about the discrepancy between quiet upstairs gigs and rammed downstairs gigs for cover artists in my Wakefield Express column.
This was a bad move. Someone, a parent of someone in the scene as it happened, wrote to the Express asking I be fired for suggesting – I don't know – they weren't proper music fans or something.
They also complained to The Hop and pulled on their heartstrings as a loyal customer. They said they shouldn't work with Long Division anymore. Also, my wife has just started working there. The 'top man' rang me up and was really angry I was trying destroy his business and said it might not work out for my wife if I didn't apologise. I apologised.
Years later I tried to get The Twilight Sad back. I agreed to the fee the agent wanted but the band said they didn't want to come back to Wakefield. As a fan, I was really sad about that. That's the only time that's ever happened."
It's a funny old game, trying to make things happen in Wakefield and running a music festival. Help us keep doing it at this link:
