We've been sad to hear this week of the passing of Chris De Saram, long time leader over at Wakefield Jazz . In a city full of hidden gems, WJ truly is one – a nationally revered and respected club right here in the city centre.

We enjoyed working with Chris through Wakefield Arts Partnership and this year we achieved our long held goal to partner up and bring Jazz to the Long Division lineup. Chris was keen to push into the more experimental reaches of Jazz and we were delighted by him booking Shatner's Bassoon to astound and confuse audiences (as all great music should) for us. Sadly, we'll not get chance to do it again.

Love and respect to a passionate and dedicated man.

  2. A lovely man – he was most helpful when we put jazz gigs on at the Tap & Barrel in Pontefract. A cool jazz cat indeed.

  5. A great and kind man. I knew him in various guises over the years. His appreciation and knowledge of Jazz was second to none and his advocacy of Wakefield precious. A sad loss for us all, especially his family.
