We were created to support emerging talent in the city, something we are continuing to aspire to with our Manifesto For A New Wakefield project this year.
A great example (we think) is Wakefield musician Loz Campbell Music – we didn’t realise it at the time but when we organised five outreach gigs in Wakefield’s Five Towns a few years back, we ended up booking Loz for her first ever gig – from the show you never would have guessed. We then took her through to Long Division itself on the outdoor stage at The Orangery.
We used profits from the festival to help fund some of her early recordings and since then she has boldly followed her own path.
Although we pledged to have few return performers this year, we felt that since this was the first Long Division since her debut album was released, it was fitting to have her back on June 2nd.
We’d love to do this for more musicians and artists. When you come to Long Division this year, be sure to check out the artists you’ve not heard of – who knows what you might come across?
