I’m so sad to hear of Dave Harper’s passing – I loved booking Frankie & The Heartstrings but specifically I remember first meeting Dave as part of a panel on DIY music at Leeds Music Hub. Having gone to Uni in Sunderland back when there was a whole pile of nothing going on, I was so impressed by POP RECS and the connected work; how it was a record shop but also a safe space, a haven, an agent for social change before I think those things were as considered as they are now.
I always loved finding an excuse to head back and calling in to the shop for a not frequent enough check-in on what was happening in the city. Places like Sunderland need people like Dave and people like Dave are total one-offs. Love to all his family and friends and the wider community at this sad time.
