Latitude announces first acts for 2017

The best festival listings calendar, previews, reviews, and photos

Latitude Festival has announced the first 16 big acts for its regular summer outing.

John Cale

The 1975, Mumford and Sons and Fleet Foxes aside we’re really looking forward to John Cale, Tinariwen, Grandady, and The Divine Comedy.

Of course there is plenty more to choose from.

For example, Placebo, Jack Garrett, and Fatboy Slim head up the BBC Music stage.

There are also some new names to contend with. Chief amongst these is perhaps the young south London hip hop star, Loyle Carner, whose name is already starting to crop up on many of the big festival line-ups.

Carner hails from Croydon, notable recently for producing a slew of award-winning and chart-topping grime acts.

However his lyrical prowess is of a different order, and instead he opts for soulful introspection…whilst at the same time maintaining the harshly gritty edge to his subject matter that an upbringing south of the river means must be ever present.

He’s selling out big venues across the UK right now and is off to Australia before returning to his heartland with a Brixton Academy show later in the year as a birthday present to himself.

Take a listen and mark him firmly in your festival programme as a must see.

Oh – and buy his album, ‘Yesterday’s Gone’ as a treat to yourself.
