Possibly the archetypal original ‘indie’ band, The Wedding Present, are joined by Cate Le Bon, Martha, Joanna Gruesome, The Wave Pictures and The Tutson on this year’s Indietracks festival line-up.
The acts are among 38 artists to be confirmed today for the 11th edition of this beautifully-appointed festival, which takes place at a picturesque 1950s steam railway in Derbyshire.
Indietracks festival takes place on the weekend of 28-30 July 2017 and is a celebration of independent, creative and DIY pop music.
Bands play across the heritage railway site, on the main outdoor stage as well as in a locomotive shed, a tin tabernacle and on the steam trains themselves.
The Weddoes and co are joined by Shopping, Monkey Swallows The Universe, TeenCanteen, The Orchids, The Hearing, Peaness, Personal Best, The Hayman Kupa Band, Grace Petrie and Kid Canaveral.
Other acts confirmed include: Charmpit, Chorusgirl, Cola Jet Set, Cowtown, Crumbs, Dan Webber, Daniel vs the World, David Leach, Evripidis and his Tragedies, Garden Centre, Lilith Ai, Maybe Don’t, Milky Wimpshake, MJ Hibbett and the Validators, Model Village, The Perfect English Weather, Pillow Queens, Rainbow Reservoir, Red Red Eyes, Schande, Suggested Friends, and th’sheridans.
Around a dozen more artists and DJs will be added to the bill shortly.
- The Wedding Present is a band born in Leeds in 1985. The release of their debut single was ‘Go Out And Get Em’ Boy’, followed by the band’s first album, ‘George Best‘, a couple of years later. They were championed by BBC radio DJ John Peel and in 1992 equalled Elvis Presley’s 35-year-old record for most hits in one year. The band has released a string of acclaimed albums, ranging from lo-fi pop, three-part a capella harmonies and Waikiki-ready surf strains, to growling angst and traditional Eastern European folk music. In 2016 The Wedding Present released their ninth studio album, ‘Going, Going…’, described by Louder Than War as “A remarkable album. A joy from start to finish.” Allmusic added that “It’s hard to deny the brilliance of a band that can crank out an album as passionate, hook-filled and flat-out fiery as this.
- Cate Le Bon is an artist hailing from Carmarthenshire, rural West Wales and is currently a resident of Highland Park, Los Angeles, having relocated across the Pacific. She has so far released four acclaimed albums, including most recently the incredible ‘Crab Day’ in April 2016. “By coalescing a number of everyday influences – from Television to John Cale–and adding her own distinctive formula, Crab Day doesn’t really sound like anything else out there.” – The Line of Best Fit. “Her nervy assessments of the world are filled with equal parts suspense and heart, and beautifully zany riffs, where the feeling of being frayed by uncertainty comes together into a strangely comforting patchwork.” – Pitchfork.
Tickets are now available at an early bird discount price of £72 (weekend) and £39 (day), excluding booking fees. These cheaper prices are available until 9pm on Sunday 14 May. After this date, prices will be £79 (weekend) and £41 (day). Weekend tickets for children aged 5-15 are £10, or £6 for a day ticket. Children under 5 get in free! Around 50 indiepop bands from across the globe will be playing across four stages at Indietracks, and the festival will also host a range of art and craft workshops and a selection of discos after the bands finish.
This is the 11th annual Indietracks festival, which takes place at the Midland Railway in Ripley, in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside. The site houses a whole range of lovingly restored steam diesels and locomotives. Festival goers are able to have unlimited rides on the steam railway over the weekend and full access to other railway attractions and museums.
Previous headliners at Indietracks have included Teenage Fanclub, Saint Etienne, The Go! Team, Camera Obscura, Gruff Rhys, Edwyn Collins, Los Campesinos! and The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart.
