The word ‘Jubilee’ might spark visions of waving flags, sounds of cheering crowds, the smell of freshly baked street party cakes and the spectacle of pageantry. But its roots go much deeper.
In the Old Testament (take a breath, Greenbelt’s about to go all ‘bible study’) there’s this radical idea of the 50th year – the ‘Jubilee’ year – as a time to release and repair. To wipe the slate clean. To start again.
Growth can take us so far. But every so often it’s good to stop, redistribute and start again. This year – in our 50th year, our Jubilee year – we too want to take time to stop, rest, reflect, re-group and start again, together.
