‘Random acts of kindness’ have become popular in recent years. Something done on a whim. Sporadic. Whenever, whatever. Paying the toll on the bridge for the car behind. But what if it wasn’t done on a whim? What about intentional and habitual acts of kindness? So that kindness became a default position? What difference would that make to the world? We underestimate the transformational power of kindness. Responding to hate with kindness can cause shame and re-appraisal. Far from a soft approach, kindness can actually cut deep. The world might tell us we’re being ‘soft’, when the rhetoric is all about being tough and strong. But simple acts of everyday kindness are what change the world.
