Latest Festival Flyer update from Greenbelt
[ad_1]
In the 1990s, Kiwi writer Mike Riddell bowled up at @greenbelt & introduced us to the ways of Godzone. We’re so sad to learn of his death, aged 69. Festival friend Gareth HIggins pays his personal tribute here, which we know will resonate with so many: https://www.facebook.com/garethhigginsbelfast/posts/10160575196801614
Emerson said “a friend may well be reckoned a masterpiece of nature”; in my life, for twenty-five years now, Mike Riddell has proven these words true.
And he has done the same, I am sure, for many others as
well. Today miraculous Mike has left this bodily realm, in his sleep, just a couple of days after his 69th birthday. He wouldn’t want a fuss, he’d roll his eyes a bit at effusive tributes, but seriously the man *was* a fucking miracle and I don’t care who hears me say it.

So hard to believe – he was only the same age as me.
I’ll never forget the first time I heard him speak. It changed my life when he “you will die with some things unfixed”. It was a necessary shock. A man who spoke from the heart.
What a beautiful tribute to a real dude. I mainly knew Mike via his writing, especially his column for Third Way. He was always so bold & gracious.
He meant a huge amount to me. A mentor, a friend, an inspiration.
I heard Mike give the best talk ever, about Jesus’ resurrection appearance on the road to Emmaus, many years ago. I asked him for a copy of his talk which he emailed to me when he got home.
