‘Tukua te Kūata’ – ‘Love Now’ – Huia

Written in the midst of rāhui, this song was a free flow of thoughts. Life is too short to hold back your love. “Do it all now. Burn the candles, eat the cake, use the soap… do all the things!”

With a soft pulsing RnB beat from Rei, ‘Tukua te Kūata’ has a warm lullaby feel and is recorded, mixed and mastered by Kog Studio, with te reo tautoko from Lois McIver.

Huia had some amazing gigs planned for summer including a mainstage spot at Splore and Sound Valley and these have been moved forward to the next summer! She has been shaping her next album and now with the release of ‘Tukua te Kūata’ in both english and te reo Māori, this is the first glimpse of what the musicscape will be.

Huia’s last single ‘Marama La Luna’ lingers and still adds moonshine glimmers to everyday playlists and Māori TV. Splore festival created a retro-glam memoir music video for ‘Marama La Luna’ to celebrate one of Aotearoa favourite gatherings. This bilingual waiata featured on Apple Music and Te Reo Māori Spotify playlist, alongside Lorde’s ‘Solar Power’, premiered in Canada through ‘Reclaimed CBC’ and a part of the ‘Waiata Anthems’ collective. It was also the anthem for Donna Sparx Hoop Sparx highlights of her experiences on Waiheke island.

With the support of Te Māngai Pāho, ‘Tukua Te Kūata’ is out now.

Video footage by the wonderful charismatic team – Fryderyk Kublikowski and Ngaru Garland thanks to John Minty and the Splore team for the space and shoot!
