Yanna Pelser is a singer and a classically trained viola player. After playing in various classical ensembles she turned to jazz, pop, world music and improvisation. Plucking away on her viola, she sings about the unbearable lightness of being and other crucial subjects. Born in Istanbul, Esat Ekincioğlu was 12 when he started to play electric bass. At 19 he picked up the double bass and more recently he relocated to the Netherlands for his musical studies. A genuine innovator, he likes to push the envelope with his instrument. Esat and Yanna cover a wide range of genres with their string instruments, from classical to original pop music, and from innovative Mediterranean music and to free jazz. Looking at their origins, musical education and approach to music, it’s hard to find a more divergent duo. Their common adaptability and surprising contributions always make improvisations the highlights of their concerts.
