Journey has been preparing a new studio album, and now comes word that the forthcoming release will be supersized.

Narada Michael Walden, who replaced longtime Journey member Steve Smith as the band’s new drummer last year, and also is producing the new record, posted a message Friday on his Facebook page revealing that he was in the studio with Neal Schon “wrapping up the exciting new Journey double album.” He added, “Stay tuned.”

On the same day, Schon posted a video on his Facebook page showing him laying down a guitar track, along with the message, “We had some fun today as I replayed all Guitar’s [sic] on this 1st track we cut over a year ago when we began the new Journey album. It’s a [wrap]!”

Journey gave fans the first taste from the upcoming album in June with the release of their latest single, “The Way We Used to Be.”

In addition to Walden, the new album marks the return of bassist Randy Jackson, who previously played with Journey in the mid-1980s, and of drummer Deen Castronovo, who was a member of the group from 1998 to 2015.

While no release date has been announced for the album, Schon told ABC Audio in July that he expected it to come out either at the end of this year or in early 2022.

Meanwhile, Journey is preparing to kick off a six-show Las Vegas residency at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas in December. The dates are scheduled for December 1, 2, 7, 8, 10 and 11. The band also will be playing a special symphonic concert on December 18 in Vegas at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

  2. rio cruz says:

I feel bad for this guy.no matter how he tries.to keep Jouney alive.some people cant apprecite hes effort.

  3. The throat valve of arnel cant reach the range pitch..but its ok..bec..of getting older but still rocking like Axl..its not easy to be lead vocalist with the high pitch!!

  4. Drag0n3y3 says:

I'm a singer and it bugs me when I don't have good annunciation. He sounds like he's mumbling the lyrics. my guess its because this song is very demanding and its easier to let all the words blend together. Goes to show how stinkin amazing Steve Perry is! ( i only listened to the first song) too painful to keep listening

  5. Ray Snut says:

Neal Schon playing an EVH Wolfgang guitar. That's pretty cool.

  6. They should invite Vince Neil to replace Arnel…joking …much respect to Arnel! One of the best in industry

  7. lets see what happen n. shon next move

  8. journey songs is hard to sing
Steve perry is a legend and nothing can replace him ….
but arnel give the resurrection and life of journey

    big credits to arnel …

  9. Ulra Lopag says:

    i Understand how hard…

  10. The UNIQUENESS or the difference of Sir ARNEL PINEDA among other artist is his injection of unique innovations when a vocalist performs in a band. And how he pours his heart and soul into each song as he interprets and sing at the same time. That’s why when The Journey through Neal Schon hand-picked Arnel, there was a Divine intervention in there I feel, knowing that Arnel would give justice to their songs. At the same, God heard and make perfection, His promises to Arnel to grant his wish of recognition not only to his fellow artists in the Philippines and its audience, instead, he gave the world a new energy and a twist in Journey’s songs. As for me, Arnel is never a copycat of any artist for”HE IS HIS OWN MAN OF AN ARTIST “. He does not want to replace Steve Perry because SP among other Journey’s singer has their own time with the group…. And I call it Phase 1 or the First Book of The Journey when they were still younger and middle aged men at the same time. Arnel Pineda, came in the Second Book of the Older Journey…. He is in the Phase 2 or the Phase 2 per se along, Sir’s Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Deen Castronovo and Ross Valory.

What I’ve said above were my opinion during my experience of hearing Journey with Arnel Pineda in main Vocals. I don’t even know, Sir Arnel when he was still based in the Philippines. I first hear him sing in You Tube with their stint in Chile in 2008. I was shocked that the main voice was a Filipino among a group of seasoned artist that of Journey. The rest is history and the beginning of my following and liking the Journey with Arnel Pineda as part of the band. Kudos ‘The Journey’.

Mabuhay ka ARNEL PINEDA. SALAMAT SA MGA ELDER MEMBERS OF THE JOURNEY, KASI SA PAGPAPAHALAGA NILA KAY ARNEL, NAKILALA DIN S’YA NG PILIPINAS AT NG BUONG MUNDO. The humility of Arnel is impeccable and worthy of mentioning here plus the humility and goodness of the heart of Neal Schon and other members of the Journey, who welcomed him like their own skin and their own level. Being a member of the one of the best seasoned American Band never changed Arnel as an individual, instead he could help more people who need God’s help through Arnel’s good heart. 🙏🏼😇🙏🏼👏🏼

  11. yeotao says:

Arnel is great, it should be considered that most vocalists get to condition their vocal muscles on live tours, and he didn't get that chance for the past 2 years. It's hard for ANY vocalist to come back to a big stage after a break
. Having said that, would be nice to see Jeff Scott Soto make an appearance again. 🤗That guy is a power house with 4 bands, never lost his voice badly on stage.

  12. P Caroleo says:

    Incredible love him!

  13. Sounds like bad audio setup.

  14. Who could ever have imagined Journey carrying on without Steve Perry? NO ONE. But, seemingly out if the blue , Arnel was discovered, and the rest is history. Who on Earth, besides the great Steve Perry himself, could sing anywhere near to his ability, except for Arnel? Thank you Arnel. And the members of Journey know it!! To the great Steve Perry, and thanks to Arnel for doing the absolute best in keeping Journey's, and Steve's legacy, alive. Thanks to Neal too🎸

  15. still goin great still journey timeless.

  16. Tom Kid says:

Still a great performance by all means! Arnel Pineda is the real salvation for Journey. hopefully we'll him and Steve singing together in a Journey concert.

  17. Still the best vocalist for me and for my fellow Filipino😊😘

  18. He ' s getting audience participate to sing,

  19. What happened to Randy Jackson? He supposed to play bass right ?

  20. Dean is a great singer too. He can always drop in to sing

  21. Arnel still amazing…😎😎😎

  22. Arnel gave Journey new life but it appears the end is nearing unless he is able to recover. Voice stamina just not there now. It's hard as hell to do these tours and maintain it at 54 years of age. That's a simple fact. You don't have to defend him. It is what it is. He has done an amazing job for 15 years. I'm hoping the addition of Deen is designed to give him a break during the marathon sets. Deen's voice appears to be as good as ever. Let him sing some of the less notable hits and Arnel can take a breather. They did it in the past.

  23. Beth Dow says:

I can't stand listening to him knowing it's not Steve Perry and would not go to a Journey concert.

  24. So proud of you arnel❤️❤️❤️
