FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS: James Taylor – Steamroller Blues (VetsAid with Joe Walsh, Tacoma, 11/11/18)

Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

On November 11, 2018, longtime Eagles guitarist @Joe Walsh welcomed James, @Don Henley, @Chris Stapleton and @HAIM for the second VetsAid festival in the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA to an arena audience of military veterans, active-duty military and military families. The concert raised over $800,000 which was dispersed to charity partners supporting vets and their families. The VetsAid Jobs Fair –in cooperation with Operation GoodJobs and Goodwill WA—was also able to connect dozens of veterans and families with meaningful employment and a living wage.

The VetsAid veterans charity event was created in 2017 by Joe Walsh. The aim of the annual event is to raise funds and awareness for the urgent and significant needs of returning U.S soldiers and their families in the areas of holistic, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual care.

“Steamroller Blues” is a classic song written by James that first appeared on his 1970 second album, “Sweet Baby James.”

VetsAid 2018 Band: James Taylor, Joe Walsh, Will Hollis, Scott Crago, Steuart Smith, Michael Thompson, Jimmy Johnson, Erica Swindell, Lara Johnston, Lily Elise, Tom Evans, Chris Holt, Milo Deering.

LYRICS
Steamroller Blues – James Taylor

Well, I’m a steamroller, baby
I’m bound to roll all over you
Yes, I’m a steamroller now, baby
I’m bound to roll all over you
I’m gonna inject your soul with some sweet rock ‘n roll
And shoot you full of rhythm and blues

Well, I’m a cement mixer
A churning urn of burning funk
Yes, I’m a cement mixer for you, baby
A churning urn of burning funk
Well, I’m a d-d-demolition derby (yeah)
A hefty hunk of steaming junk

Now, I’m a love bomb, baby
Just guaranteed to blow your mind
Yeah, I’m a love bomb for you, baby
Oh, guaranteed, just guaranteed to blow your mind
And if I can’t have your love for my own (now)
Sweet child, won’t be nothing left behind
It seems how lately, baby
Well I’m a steamroller for you, baby, child

  6. Brother James! You killed it! Most excellent!! Before I retired I worked for a contractor who used to throw the most awesome holiday parties 🎊!!! We used to have a live band and when he got a few drinks 🍹 in him; he would have the band play Steamrolled Blues and he would sing. Always one of my favorites. 18. @James Taylor …. I truly hope that James Taylor actually reads this as HE is the one I most want to know about this. Many years ago I lived in a lovely little apartment with a secluded yard.. fully enclosed by large trees. One day I had the windows open and had James Taylor on the stereo.. loud enough to be heard from outside. Within minutes a large group of starlings had gathered and were.. it appeared .. singing along. When the music stopped.. they left. I thought it was just coincidental .. a one time interesting event. BUT … it happened EVERY time I played any of James Taylor's music .. EVERY time ! It happened with NO other music.. only James's … I tested this on many occasions… just to be sure I wasn't just imagining it. Even the birds LOVE James Taylor's music .. as do I .. from the first song I ever heard way back in jr high school, when the first James Taylor song came on the radio.. to now, some … well let's just say MANY years later .. 🙂 Amazing voice.. amazing talent ..

  19. 👍😎❤🖖
    Love brother
