FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS: ITV ad break 12/12/1996 #3

The best festival listings calendar, previews, reviews, and photos

Taken from a recording of Phoenix Festival highlights on 12/12/96. We have:
0:00 The Famous Grouse. Is it just me or have they basically been re-making the same ad for the last twenty-five years?
0:21 WH Smith ad promoting “Les Miserables In Concert” on video. “The perfect Xmas present for Mum…” Also features Nicholas Lyndhurst in drag as the aforementioned mum.
0:52 KFC Mega Bucket. Only £9.99. How much are they nowadays?
1:02 “The Dogs” Britpop compilation.
1:33 Rowan Atkinson playing Johnny English (or rather Richard Latham, as the character was then known) for a Barclaycard ad. Very silly, although the last shot with the twin towers-dominated skyline makes it somewhat poignant in hindsight.
2:33 “Club Mix 97” compilation ad. I think I’d much rather listen to “The Dogs” instead based on this.
3:03 “Organics” shampoo. “For beautiful, award-winning hair right through Xmas.”
3:14 “Nick Hancock’s Football Nightmares” ad. Featuring the great man himself (leaning on a dustbin, naturally.)
