  1. 100% completely agree! Dime's tone sounds great on its own and great in the mix with absolutely nothing adjusted. How many can you really say that about? All too often there has to be a compromise for the sake of the mix and the isolated guitar ends up sounding like shit without context, or it sounds awesome on its own but then it's fighting with everything else. Tone on its own is a matter of taste anyways. His Century 200 sound is my fave of the amps he's played.

  2. Mark Alan says:

I appreciate everything you do for my music world, thanks.

  3. Tone foam. Let the debate start.

  4. Dime had unique like most greats. It was part of his style and set him apart, went perfectly with his technique.

  5. If not too late for today's session, just wondering what your thoughts are on the modelling tones of the older axe FX ii / ax8 vs the helix / hx line and….how do you buy an fm3 these days? Seems hard to find one?

  6. rc121crx says:

Less than 2 minutes talking about the title and more about random things. Isn't that click bait and disrespectful?

  7. such a mindless question, he was the goat and aways sounded badass, only dime could do that

  8. I also think Dime's tone was influenced by Overkill, especially "The Years Of Decay" album. That album came out a year before CFH and was also produced by Terry Date.

  9. I'm really interested in an Eastman guitar video.

  10. I always love Dimebag's tone. It was an essential part of the Pantera sound.

  11. I think his tone sounds best on Far Beyond Driven but overall it works so well with Pantera. They go so fucking hard that it just all fits perfectly.

  12. Diab Soule says:

I think there's a misconception that dime scooped his mids. Dimes mids were scooped in the mix by the engineer. To replicate dimes live tone you need tons of low mids and tons of gain

  13. Lenser says:

His tone only worked for him and sounds horrible for anyone playing through a similar rig

  14. The fact anyone would ask that question about his tone pisses me off. You're talking about a dead legend. Have respect fuck heads.

  15. Alex_Echo says:

That's kinda dumb question about Dimebag's tone, about JP's tone, about Cobains tone etc. It doesnt matter if tone is "good" or "bad" on some criteria, there is a context. And Dime's tone works perfect within the context. It's the song that matters.

  16. Interesting…considering Zakk has great tone and cannot, even with his, "Wylde", abilities…play Dime like Dime can play Dime. Way to click bait 🤣

  17. His Pantera tone was awesome and you knew it was him. The tone he had in Damageplan wasn’t that great. I think he was trying NOT to sound like Pantera at that time.

  18. Totc says:

Dimebags tone was crushing it fit perfect for the context of the band. It’s like a modern day randy rhoads type tone to me.

  19. elevenAD says:

That PRS is so effin sweet i could not even focus on what he was saying! Im not even into flametops but this just floors me, stunning guitar!

  20. Christo says:

Hated that tone but I want the bill lawrence pup.

  21. The first time i saw Pantera live was on the Far Beyond tour , on the first riff Dime played my ears melt down , it was the most brutal guitar sound that i had ever heard until then in a concert, and it is till today.

  22. Mac 1666 says:

Dimebags tone sucked? No. He had solid state tone but it worked perfectly with what that band was doing. For instance, Slash's guitar tone sounded like a duck quacking and Axle had a horrible voice but it worked out for what they were doing. Dime's style and tone was a part of a unique sound.

  23. SGavin says:

On my floating Floyd Rose bridges, I found that heat shrink tubing on the springs works really well to deaden their noise while still allowing them to move freely. I don't actually heat the tubing, but I use tubing that is just large enough to slip onto the springs.

  24. Dime’s tone worked in Pantera. Overall his tone was plain mean and nasty, perfect for his band.

  25. On the subject of Dimebag's guitar tone, I love it. Dime is the reason I picked up a guitar as a kid.
It was perfect in the context of Pantera, and their mix. A lot of other bands and their mixes that tone wouldn't work.

On the topic of extended or multi scale, extended range guitars, I love them. My main guitar for the last two years is an Ormsby RC-ONE 7 string, and it is a brutal beast. Super thin shreddy neck, like an original Ibanez wizard, but it is a ridiculous riff machine.
That guitar was my first Ormsby, but it definitely won't be my last. Nobody does multiscales quite the Perry, and nobody else makes a multiscale with a Floyd Rose (that I know of), it's the best of all worlds.

  26. Dime is a legend and nobody touches his style or personality.

  27. I always thought his tone was thin. Nasel even

  28. I’ve always been a fan of Dime’s tone in the context of dime because it’s so unique and fits him so well, but it’s never been a tone I’ve ever had any interest in recreating or going for. That being said somehow my first tube amp was a Krankenstein with matching cab (which I’ve still got), hopefully picking up a couple more Krank cabs this week, and I’ve also got a snake skin rg80es with matching 2×12 with Jaguar speakers 🤷‍♂️

  29. Supported Pantera twice here in Perth on two separate tours, the thing that killed me about his sound was how quiet he was on stage. You could easily have a conversation side of stage.. very similar to Dino Cazares in that regard.

  30. Fact 5 says:

I guess people have so easily forgotten Randy Rhoads early tones…… nasal, brittle, harsh.

  31. Hall of the Mountain King in the background. Nice Leon! 🤘🤘

  32. Pat Mayer says:

Dirty…..plain dirty……just the way it was supposed to be……he was NOT playing folk music,,,,,,,,….heavy as hell.3

  33. K2347 says:

When Dime went to Krank his tone got better but prior………..it was horrible.

  34. Cowboys from Hell and previously? His sound was good. Even Vulgar is fine. After that, the sound only got worse and worse.

  35. Dime has a bad tone? What? That part about a minute into Cemetery Gates is just mind blowing. I remember the first time I heard that it was like I have to figure out how to make a guitar sound like that.

  36. Plus it’s hard to pull of squeeling dive bombs that last 12 bars when you don’t have a ridiculous amount of gain!

  37. i wrap a sock around my head just behind my nut…works fine 🙂

  38. ChiAeNima says:

It would be awesome if you could share those Tonex captures but not on the cloud. I mean the tnx files so we can download them and import them directly. Thnx in advance.
