‘Second Lives’ is the second album from Glasgow drummer and composer Graham Costello and his ensemble, STRATA after the success of the critically-acclaimed 2019 debut album Obelisk.

Featuring the talents of pianist Fergus McCreadie, guitarist Joe Williamson, trombonist Liam Shortall, bassist Mark Hendry and saxophonist Harry Weir, the release has been described as “Dedicated, artful… amazing” by the Sunday Times.

Initially, I wrote an entirely different album to this. But then lockdown hit, the recording session moved and moved and before I knew it I was in an entirely different space – musically and in life. More introspective and inward, and as a result of that I eventually wrote another new album that encapsulated more of that moment…so that’s what Second Lives turned out to be.

It’s a far more personal album, exploring many themes: one in particular being the process of growing as a human being. For me, it’s written to be listened to from start to end, but by all means listen however you like. And to whoever does listen, I hope you enjoy it and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. Or not. Either way, the music is there to be shared with everyone now. Take care x
