0151: Liverpool, Rap & Politics

To celebrate turning 15, Shoot the Company launched their 15K for 15 competition, giving a fund of £15,000 to a talented filmmaker under 25 to make a film that mattered to them. The winner was filmmaker and artist Amber Akaunu who wanted to make a film about the story of the oldest Black community in Europe in her hometown of #Liverpool 🖤

“Our deserved winner was Amber, whose proposal was to tell the forgotten story of conscious rap in Liverpool from the 1980s to today. Amber had a clear vision of how to tell this story, linking the music past and present by having MC Nelson lead the film and going to meet key figures from Liverpool’s rap past, notably K-Delight from Bantu” – Shoot the Company
