Truck Festival 2022 – bands to watch

Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

OK – so here is our approach to sifting through festival bands so that we can tell you which ones you ought to be getting out to see at Truck Festival 2022.

1. Hunt out the official Truck Festival 2022 Spotify playlist…. which we were nicely impressed with as it didn’t focus too much on the big headline names (a regular mistake we find a lot of festivals make – everyone knows those guys…we want to discover something new!)

2. Do that standard A&R / Festival booker trick of giving each band the following ‘listening’ opportunity (A) Play the first three seconds of the first track to see if it has a hook; (B) If ‘A’ proves OK, skip forward to about a third of the way through the track to see what has developed; (C) On the rare occasion that ‘B’ holds our attention let the track play out while googling the band’s reviews to see what they are all about.

3. Compile a pretty random list of acts who may (or may not) be truly amazing.

What we can tell you straight away is that the Truck Festival booking team are on our wavelength… and if we could work out a name for that genre of music that ‘sounds a bit like Squid/Dry Cleaning/Sports Team/ Bodega’ we’d be delighted to say there is a lot of it at Truck Festival 2022!

So here are a bunch of bands who have caught our ears and who we’d love you you go and support…we’ve also done the graft of finding some of the better reviews of each act so you can get a sense of what to expect…
