Hosted by BBC Music and supported by the breadth of the UK music industry, BBC Music Introducing Live offers a weekend of invaluable support for emerging home-grown talent as they take the next steps in their career.
A new wave of talent announced today as part of the speaker and panel programme includes Tom Grennan, a fast rising artist who’s debut album ‘Lighting Matches’ was released to great acclaim last month; You Me At Six – who are getting ready to release their sixth studio album, VI, in October – and Jamie Cullum, the most successful British jazz singer of all time.
Gabrielle Aplin says: “BBC Music Introducing have been supporting me from the very start of my career! They’ve given me many opportunities such as secret festival slots, radio support and live recording sessions to name just a few. I love to watch them do the same for other artists. I’m really excited to speak at BBC Music Introducing Live and to hopefully share some useful advice on songwriting and music!”
The line-up also welcomes BBC Music Introducing alumni Gabrielle Aplin, whose cover of ‘The Power Of Love’ reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart and Maximo Park’s Paul Smith. Smith and Aplin will offer their invaluable advice on ‘How To Write A Hit’. Sam Duckworth aka Get Cape. Wear Cape Fly offers insight into ‘Self releasing: The DIY Guide To Getting Your Music Out There’; Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle is set to give an insight into the grants on offer from the Arts Council in ‘Getting Funding For Your Music Career’; British DJ and entertainment lawyer Jules O’Riordan AKA Judge Jules, will be sharing invaluable legal advice in a dedicated ‘What’s In A Recording Contract?’ panel.
Musician, multimedia artist and Dazed Political Editor GAIKA joins the programme as a speaker with Love Music Hate Racism. Fresh from the release of his debut album Basic Volume via WARP and a Boiler Room commissioned art installation at Somerset House marking 70 years of Windrush, Gaika is a formidable name in the music industry.
Also appearing on panels will be The Amazons and Sam McTrusty (Twin Atlantic). Each speaker will offer a rarely heard insight into the workings of the industry from the point of view of a successful artist.
The programme features a wealth of industry heavyweights leading the charge internationally including Martin Mills, Founder of Beggars Group, the home of XL, 4AD, Rough Trade, Matador and more. Beggars are famed as the home of Adele, The XX, Sampha, Daughter, and Grimes. Record labels from across a variety of genres join the programme including Columbia, Ninja Tune, Atlantic, Transgressive and PIAS with representation from the worlds of A&R, management and publishing.
BBC Radio 1’s Phil Taggart and BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley join the already expansive line-up of BBC talent from across BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Asian Network and BBC Radio 3. Hosts including Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne, Jamie Cullum, Zoe Ball, Nihal, DJ Target, Tom Robinson and Bobby Friction will be at Tobacco Dock over the three days.
BBC Music Introducing Live offers unparalleled access to BBC talent, leading artists in the industry, major music brands, labels and face-to-face time with songwriters, bands, DJ’s, producers, managers and future industry leaders.
Across the three days the huge programme includes 100 inspiring masterclasses and practical workshops designed to help aspiring musicians and professionals make it in the music industry. These include How To Get A Job In The Music Business, Building A Following On Social Media, How To Get Festival Bookings, and How To Get Your Music Heard. The event will also feature Q&As with over 250 speakers from all corners of the music industry, who will share their insider knowledge alongside key UK music industry bodies.
