The Membranes – ripping it up at the Prince Albert, Brighton

Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

John Robb has a shadowy portrait hidden in an attic somewhere – there is no other explanation for his eternal youth…

….except perhaps for clean living and a genuine belief in the power of music to rejuvenate even the most tired and jaded frame.

Despite featuring a slew of great support acts, The Membranes ruled the roost tonight, including a guest appearance from punk-icon Jordan – giving a reading of her new autobiography set to an extemporised and throbbing Robb baseline.

New songs, that milk churn drum, those intense staring eyes gazing out from chiselled features help to define a Membranes gig – and all of this and much much more was on offer as the crowd lapped it up.
