SNAYX at Rockaway Beach Festival 2024…

Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

That familiar ‘snakes on a plane’ intro track signals what so many people have been waiting all weekend for… it’s launch control initiated, and time for the nicest two guys off stage to transform into snarling (but always smiling) anti-establishment ASBOs on stage…

SNAYX are all about the bass… and Boys in Blue shakes leftover confetti from the rafters as the room vibrates to a veritable mortar attack from Ollie’s weapon of mass destruction and Lainey’s pounding drums.

But don’t forget Charlie (how could you?).

Let him truly entertain you… like Robbie Williams just discovered punk!

As showmen go, Charlie (Mr Herridge to you Mr Banker), is definitely up there amongst the best of them… no argument.

This is the band’s first outing to Rockaway despite only being based a short drive down the coast… however it transpires his parents met in this very room… so he wouldn’t be here without Butlins!!

‘Deranged’ kicks in like a thermonuclear detonation… and I’m always amazed that venue speakers can survive that chainsaw bass guitar effect! I certainly can’t believe the Butlins system (as good as it is) has ever been pushed that close to the point of destruction.

When we reach ‘Body Language’ it’s a reminder that although SNAYX songs are instantly recognisable as SNAYX songs it’s tracks like this that lend texture to their sets, allowing the pace to shift up and down through every available gear and keeping crowds attention throughout.

Then we have ‘Work’ served up… and this one song alone should put SNAYX on the Left Field stage at Glastonbury… Billy Bragg take note… it has every base covered and has all the trademark lyrical hooks of The Jam at their political best.

The band’s street team and online mafia, the belly crawlerz social club, are firmly in the house this afternoon, but their partisan support is hardly needed, because in the week that SNAYX found their faces on an Amazon Music billboard in Trafalgar Square representing the best in new British music, the Rockaway Beach crowd were in the palm of their hand.

As the closing bars echoed away the audience reaction just kept coming… with the longest applause of any act of the weekend.

And that’s why we’ve been telling you for the last year… SNAYX are one of the best live artists in the UK right now.
