Many years ago at a small pub in South East London called the Bridge House Tavern there was a summer solstice gig that went under the name of ‘Stoned Penge’.
Chatting to Beans on Toast as Sleaze rocked the Bimble Inn up at the top of the Park Stage we recalled how several of the band had played that gig under the name Ludes, and it was the moment we’d invited Beans to play his first ever offical Glastonbury set at the Left Field.
It was also a gig that was headlined by a certain Mr Dan Donnelly – who went on to become guitarist in The Wonderstuff and now takes guitar and secondary vocal duties with Levellers.
As Dan said to us earlier today – “that one was a bit like The Pistols at the Free Trades Hall!”
