Looks like some people think it’s attributed to the fact [that they can’t ban guns](https://twitter.com/neonflag/status/1553059211214471170?s=20&t=UcPNQPIXtbV9brTtergq8w) from Piedmont Park, where the festival was supposed to take place.

  2. >According to the Atlanta news outlet SaportaReport, Music Midtown’s gun ban was informally challenged in May by Phillip Evans, a gun rights advocate in the state. The month before, Evans had actually lost a court case against the Atlanta Botanical Garden over its right to ban guns from its property. Evans first brought this challenge in 2014, not long after then-Governor Nathan Deal signed a new state law — that had become known as the “guns everywhere” bill — which expanded where guns were permitted throughout the state.

    >Despite that expansion, Evans ultimately lost his case against the Botanical Garden, with the Georgia Supreme Court ruling that the Garden’s ban was valid since it leased its property long-term from the City of Atlanta. But because that ruling didn’t speak on short-term tenants of public property — such as Music Midtown — Evans argued he would likely prevail in a similar case against the festival.

    >Though Evans never brought a lawsuit, he demanded that Music Midtown lift its firearm ban. He was also reportedly sending written complaints about it to Live Nation and the festival’s security company as recently as last month.

Seems like this is the work of some gun rights activists – fuck this dude just let people have a festival and have fun

  3. That’s a damn shame. No more Shaky Knees either.

So venues can ban book bags with too many pockets but not a gun? I’m confused

I’m genuinely just confused as to why a private event can’t dictate what is and is not allowed in their event.

Like was the permit not being approved or something?

I’d like to understand the legal behind this .

Edit: Sounds like a bunch dick heads who probably never go to fest anyway started lawsuits saying that private events held on public land can’t ban guns, said dick heads got their way and ruined a perfectly fine event for everyone else. Sounds like a purely spiteful pursuit.

  6. RIP music festivals in Atlanta

  7. I’m so pissed. Already took off work/had my travel planned/etc. Lineup was solid for a 2 day festival

My Airbnb is only giving 50% back too. Cool.

  8. This is so dumb. Last year I was getting a burger from the slutty vegan food truck & I could see a hip hop music fest happening in the entrance to the underground area near the steps & fountains(I think it was called underground music fest, it was gone for years and came back or something like that). Anyways had the most perfect view of the fest when all of a sudden some asshole held up a gun & the entire crowd scattered… tens of thousands of ppl fucking running for their lives. Ppl were getting stepped on & it was a free for all. I hid behind the slutty vegan truck (and yes I did get my burger lol). But it’s a total safety issue. F Georgia & these absurd gun laws. Your right to carry a gun shouldn’t infringe on my right for safety & thousands of drunk ppl with guns isn’t safe, esp in Atlanta. Shit.

  9. Ammosexuals and dumb hicks destroying the little fun we have/had in GA as always…

  10. God I fucking hate gun culture

  11. Gun nuts ruin just about everything

  12. Watch 420 fest be next. Could see this being a nation wide festivals issue if it goes to Supreme Court. Gov Ball, Outside Lands, ACL, Made in America all on public land,

  13. Republicans are bad for GA business per usual. Kemp lost us the all-Star MLB game last year too.

Wake up millennials…time to outvote our racist parents!!!

  14. I don’t understand. Someone please explain.

  15. This ain’t a scene. It’s a goddamn arms race.
