The best festival listings calendar, previews, reviews, and photos

Artists are invited to submit entries for the London leg of Lake of Stars – which is one of Africa’s leading music and arts festivals

Celebrating their 15th anniversary next year, Lake of Stars will also be hosting festivals and events in London and Glasgow.

The London event takes place on Saturday 10 March, 2018.

Traditionally held on the beautiful shores of the Lake Malawi in Africa, the Lake of Stars project has run events and festivals in UK and Africa since 2003, showcasing artists from Malawi and around the world.

Generating an estimated £1.3 million for Malawi’s economy each year it also provides a further boost to the image of the area with extensive global press coverage.

Festival director Will Jameson said: “We are looking for live acts, DJs, poets, theatre groups and short films. We are especially keen to hear from acts from the African diaspora. The call out is for artists based in the UK only and the deadline is 19 January 2018.”

Taking place on Saturday 10 March 2018, LOS London is a one-day multi-venue arts festival championing new talent from the UK and Africa. The festival will host live and electronic music, poetry, theatre, film screenings, book readings and exhibitions across eight venues, with most activities being free entry. The mornings will be family-focused with craft workshops and puppet shows through to DJ workshops and interactive theatre.

The festival will close with a ticketed evening concert featuring artists from the UK, Malawi, Ghana and South Africa.

Successful artists will perform alongside Glasgow alt-folk act, Frightened Rabbit. Frightened Rabbit’s fifth studio album Painting Of A Panic Attack was released in April 2016 and hit the Top 20 UK album charts, achieving the best critical reception of the band’s career to date. Other confirmed artists include internationally acclaimed, award-winning Ghanaian hip hop artist M.anifest and Malawian singer songwriter Faith Mussa. More artists will be announced shortly.

The Lake of Stars Festival’s Glasgow event will take place on Sunday 11 March 2018 and the Lake of Stars Festival held in Malawi from 28 to 30 September 2018.
