Wendy Cope OBE is one of our foremost poets. After reading history at university and then working as a teacher for 14 years, she became a full-time writer on the publication of her first book, Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis, in 1986. She has been shaping "funny, melancholy and devastatingly observant" (The Times) poetry ever since – her fifth collection of poems, Anecdotal Evidence, having been published in 2017. Her work has the uncanny knack that all great poetry has, without shouting about it: the gentle yet unavoidable lyrical reminder to us all of what it means for us to be human. Greenbelt welcomes one of the true greats – Wendy Cope.
