One of the things that often surprises new festivalgoers is our top-notch theatre programme. You’d have to travel a long way to find a festival of our size so ambitious about and committed to producing the range and diversity of performing arts that we do.

We seek out theatre that is challenging and brave, intersecting with our three-stranded DNA of artistry, activism and belief. And this year – our first full-blown festival since 2019 – is one of our boldest yet.

From ‘Black Is The Color Of My Voice’, a play inspired by the life of Nina Simone and featuring live performances of many of her most iconic songs, to ‘The Chosen Haram’, a candid, difficult yet heartwarming story of two queer Muslim men that deals with themes of sexuality, faith, addiction and connection. Plus much, much more besides.
