Norman Kember was a British peace activist working with Christian Peacemaker Teams in Iraq until he was taken as a hostage in the early 2000s. He was in Iraq to demonstrate his opposition to the invasion of the
country, to show solidarity with the Iraqi people, and to help Iraqis file grievance suits against the coalition. His time in captivity there proved to be an chance to practice patience (in more ways than one) and remains an inspirational example of resilience.
