“Love your enemies.” It’s a familiar but all-too-often avoided provocation. But what does it really mean? How does love become this form of radical mindset and action? Sami Awad, a Palestinian peace activist and exec. director of the Holy Land Trust in Bethlehem, was with us at Greenbelt back in 2013 and he shared his personal experiences of learning to love his enemy – in his case, the Israeli occupiers – and the steps he took to not just get to that theoretical point, but then put this loving-your-enemies idea into real-life practice.
