Just 19 years old, Malak Mattar is a Palestinian from Gaza – where she has lived a life under siege and attack that has matured her beyond her years. She first started painting in 2014 as Operation Cast Lead rained down on Gaza as a means, she says, to “discharge all of my negative energy.” She soon discovered that she had a rare talent for painting and her work has been featured in exhibitions around the world from Spain to India.
