Calling all artists. Our friends Balaklava Blues have started a project SHELTER OUR SKY. You can submit your artwork to help raise funds for Ukraine using NFTs. https://www.balaklavablues.ca/shelter-our-sky-nft #shelterourskynft

  1. I’m disappointed to see Greenbelt promote NFTs, which are a waste of energy and completely against Greenbelt environmental goals. Great cause, wrong way to raise money for it.

  2. Yeah, rather than promoting an NFT auction to “your family and friends” of an artwork, might it not be better to make an artwork that encourages your family and friends to donate to Ukraine (and/or other humanitarian causes). Adding an NFT into the mix is bad for the environment (like Pat Watkins said) and adds a huge amount of complexity to the process for people to contribute, and as an auction likely raises less than donations (since only the auction winner pays).

Don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but NFTs are a solution in search of a problem, and Ukraine isn’t it.

  3. Thanks for all the pushback on NFTs etc. We were so keen just to share @balaklavablues’ ask that we didn’t think things through as carefully we should. We’re exploring what alternative means of support there might be.
