By the end of 2021 we desperately hope that the world may have had its fill of ‘strong men’ leaders. From Trump to Bolsonaro to Putin, do we really need more of their ‘strength’? Ruth Broadway’s wonderful print sits in the Greenbelt office, exhorting us all to ‘bring on the gentle revolution of love’, and we think that it’s this gentleness that we need instead (along with the love, obvs). We all need to acknowledge our own vulnerability. We’ve been taught that progress will somehow make us invulnerable, but through the pandemic we’ve realised how the opposite is true. Our human condition is one of incredible vulnerability, and our planet is the same – a delicate ecosystem that is fragile and vulnerable. It’s where a baby born at Christmas speaks most powerfully of set of values turned upside down.
