Born 30 years ago in South Africa, @Nakhane is blessed with a ravishingly beautiful voice (think David McAlmont, and then some). His music tells the traumatic and all-too-familiar story of the disintegration and rejection that accompanies a young person trying to reconcile their queerness with their faith upbringing. Initially when he came out, Nakhane found himself playing the role of poster-boy for a campaign claiming that God had 'cured his queerness'. But after a few years of living that lie, he renounced his faith all together. Since that time, he has struggled with his mental health but has, through it all, found a voice and a strength to make an extraordinarily hopeful and beautiful music.
