Glastonbury Festival 2023 – a vintage year in photos

Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

VLURE

With thousands of amazing images to search through from our week at a truly vintage Glastonbury it’s been hard to pick out our favourite photos from 2023.

We saw so many brilliant bands on so many stages – from the smallest bandstand to the Pyramid, and everything in between.

There were circus performances, theatre shows, comedy, cabaret, craft workshops, talks and happenings – not to mention a million DJs.

Our favourite bands of Glastonbury 2023

Our favourite new bands of the weekend had to be VLURE, The Lottery Winners, Viagra Boys, Kid Kapichi, Benefits and Funke and The Two Tone Baby, while Sparks, Cat (Yusuf) Stevens, Nova Twins, and The Hu (plus of course Elton John) were the bigger names on the bigger stages who made us smile the most.

We think we can now safely put Nova Twins into the ‘big band’ category after we’ve spent the last few years championing them as an emerging one to watch.

For our money, VLURE will be the act who emerge most triumphantly from this year’s festival – and our prediction is that they will be as big as The Chemical Brothers in a few years’ time. They marry punk attitude with rock energy and have a sublime electronic edge that helps create something both unique, but immediately accessible to fans of a multitude of genres.

Our super-snapper, Sara-Louise Bowrey, has been shooting the main stages and the hidden corners of Glastonbury since 1999, so here are just some of the fantastic pictures she captured in 2023.
