Glastonbury’s New Alien Chicks on the Block: Get Ready for Action
Alright, Glasto gang – if you’re hitting The Bimble Inn or Strummerville on Friday (and why wouldn’t you) you’re in for a treat if you manage to catch the absolutely bonkers, brilliant, and unmissable Alien Chicks!

We stumbled on them at The Great Escape earlier this year and if that show was anything to go by they will be one of those ‘talked about’ bands at this year’s Glasto that few might see, but everyone will remember.
The Brixton-based trio has been tearing up the underground scene for a few years now, and trust us, you’re going to want to see what the buzz is about.
So, who are Alien Chicks, and what’s their sound?
Imagine a delicious, high-energy musical cocktail where punk meets jazz, rap, and a healthy dose of pure, unadulterated surrealism.
Their early foray down the rap route resulted in a live crowd favourite ‘Steve Buscemi’ – a slightly comedic ‘stance’ track that make no mention at any time whatsoever that we can make out of either Mr Pink or Con-Air’s creepy super-villain…you need to get your best mosh head on for this one!
As one reviewer put it, they’re “feisty, fun, groove-infused punk… their songs are a surreal social commentary packed with punchy rhythms and eclectic time signatures.” Sounds like a party to us!!
Joseph, Steph, and Martha don’t just play music; they create an experience.
Live shows are where they truly shine, where they are described as having an “electrifying blend” and a “raw and innovative sound.” You can expect “jolting, shapeshifting mania” where “lyrics are screamed, drum kits are smashed and moshes explode faithfully.” And despite the wildness, they’re precise – one review even mentions “overly enthusiastic, but nevertheless extremely precise angular math and Latin-inspired rock.” Mind blown!
And trust us… we’ve been plugging HotWax for about five years now.. and Alien Chicks equally float our boat.
One of the things we do love about these guys though is their refusal to be pigeonholed. They’ve been described as “stubbornly defying any attempt to categorise their music.” They’re apparently like “industry cress” – constantly growing!
And they don’t take themselves too seriously either, which is a huge part of their charm. Expect “slapstick lyrics” and an ability to navigate serious themes with a tongue-in-cheek approach.
Now, if you’re wondering which of your favourite bands might give you a hint of what Alien Chicks are all about, think along the lines of Black Midi …if you are a fan you will definitely appreciate their similarly adventurous approach to time signatures and their ability to challenge mosh pits with continuous shifts in pace.
If you love post-punk with a twist, you’ll fall head over heels with their experimental edge and how they push boundaries you didn’t even know existed.
Those who enjoy genre-bending acts that incorporate elements of rap and jazz into a punk framework will find a lot to love. Think Pixies for their raw energy and unique sound, or perhaps even the lyrical wit of The Streets.
Basically, if you’re looking for something genuinely fresh, unpredictable, and ridiculously fun, make sure you carve out time to see Alien Chicks. They’re quickly building a reputation for their “addictively energetic live show” and are absolutely “a band to watch.”
Get ready to be weirded out, in the best possible way, at Glastonbury’s two coolest little stages, by Alien Chicks!
