Getdown Services – that band you’d missed, but found at a festival

Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

No matter how hard you try it’s impossible to stay on top of new music these days.

And that’s why festivals remain important, relevant, and critical to the process of putting new bands in front of (admittedly increasingly older) audiences.

Bearded Theory always delivers the goods when it comes to a line-up that celebrates the talent of yesteryear…Iggy Pop, The Sugarhill Gang and The Furious Five, Terrorvision, Sisters of Mercy – the list goes on.

But they also throw a powerful punch in terms of newer names.

This year we’d been looking forward to seeing rising Irish stars, Yard and Gurriers, amongst other names that are bubbling up through the better playlists and radio shows.

But a names we might have missed if our ears hadn’t led us to the Woodland Stage was Welsh duo Getdown Services.

With millions of plays under their belts on Spotify alone (other streaming services are available, and generally preferable), these two unlikely Minehead lads hooked us in with a set that was nestled up on the couch alongside The Streets, Yard Act and Mik Artistik.

They played to a close-to-capacity Woodland Stage, and the crowd hung on their every word and responded to every prompt to simply get down and have a good time.

Josh Law and Ben Sadler are no boy band material. But they wear their less-than svelte torsos with pride, sport unfashionable hairdos, and quite simply live to entertain.

You won’t see Getdown Services representing the UK in next year’s Eurovision (shame!) – but if you do get a chance to get to one of their gigs you won’t be disappointed.

It was great to see a couple of puppets from their video to ‘I Got Views‘ down at the front of the crowd…
