Festivals and gigs. A listings calendar, plus previews, news, reviews, and photos

Florence Adooni, a rising star in the Ghanaian music scene, seamlessly blends the soulful sounds of her Ashanti heritage with the spiritual roots of Frafra Gospel. Born and raised in Kumasi, the heart of high-life music, her unique vocal style stands out from the traditional Frafra Gospel scene that typically originates from northern Ghana.

Recognizing the richness of both musical traditions, Florence surrounds herself with the finest young high-life musicians in Kumasi. This collaboration results in a captivating fusion, where the meandering melodies of Frafra Gospel gracefully intertwine with the rhythmic pulse of Ashanti high-life. This unique blend creates a sound that is both deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture and undeniably fresh.

Her debut single, “Mam Pe’ela Su’ure,” released on Philophon Records, has garnered widespread acclaim both in Ghana and internationally. This success is a testament to her talent and the unique musical vision she brings to the table.

Florence has a long history with Philophon Records. As part of Guy One’s group, she lent her voice to the hit single “Estre.” She also collaborated with Alogte Oho’s Sounds of Joy, contributing vocals to the popular track “Mam Yinne Wa.” Furthermore, renowned musician Jimi Tenor selected Florence to feature on his club classic, “Vocalize My Luv.” While she has achieved local success with several underground albums, “Mam Pe’ela Su’ure” marks a significant step in her journey towards global recognition.
