About
Sziget means 'island', and since 1993 it has filled Óbuda Island, in the Danube in northern Budapest. It began as a student event and is now one of Europe's biggest festivals, running for close to a week in August.
The main stage takes pop, rock, rap and electronic headliners, and dozens of smaller venues cover world music, jazz, cabaret, theatre and dance. A large part of the crowd comes from abroad, which makes it one of the most international festivals in Europe.
