About
The Sanremo Music Festival started in 1951 in the Ligurian resort of Sanremo, and since 1977 it has been held each February at the Teatro Ariston.
It's a televised song contest, a big part of Italian culture, and the winner often goes on to represent Italy at Eurovision. Over five nights established singers and newcomers compete with new Italian songs, decided by a mix of public votes, juries and press, and a large part of the country tunes in.
