About
Oktoberfest has been held on the Theresienwiese in Munich since 1810. It runs from late September to the first weekend of October.
It's the world's biggest beer festival, with huge tents run by Munich breweries, brass bands, traditional dress and a funfair. The tents fill up early, especially at weekends. It opens with the mayor of Munich tapping the first keg, and on the first Sunday there's a long parade of traditional costume groups and riflemen through the city.
