About
Kilkenny Roots Festival started in 1998 and fills the city every early May bank holiday weekend. Gigs take place in venues and pubs across the city centre.
The music is Americana, country, blues and roots, with American and Irish artists, and many free sessions in the pubs. It's one of Europe's best-loved roots festivals. The compact medieval centre means everything is within walking distance, and it draws a loyal crowd from across Ireland and beyond.
