About
Fête des Lumières takes place in Lyon around 8 December. It started in 1852, when people put candles in their windows to celebrate a statue of the Virgin Mary on Fourvière hill.
Over four nights, artists light up buildings, squares and parks across the city with projections and installations. Candles still burn in windows, and the crowds are huge.
