Boomtown

Boomtown started in 2009 and is held on the Matterley Estate near Winchester in mid-August. Its trick is the city: a full-size set of streets, districts and buildings that the audience walks through, each area with its own music and storyline, built by a crew that works on it all year.

Music runs from ska, punk, reggae and dub to drum and bass, hip-hop, techno and folk, with sound systems and live bands side by side. Fancy dress is half the point, street theatre runs through the weekend, and the crowd is younger and rowdier than at most festivals of its size.
