About
Africa Oyé began in Liverpool in 1992 as a handful of gigs in city-centre venues, and has been held in Sefton Park since 2002, usually in late June. It's one of the UK's biggest celebrations of African music and culture, and its name is a Yoruba word for joy.
Over a weekend there's live music from across Africa and the diaspora, plus dance workshops, drumming, a food village and craft stalls. It was free to attend for most of its history, drawing crowds of up to 80,000, and became a ticketed event in 2026.
